Rule of thumb:
Hot-dip galvanising offers 5–10 times better corrosion resistance than electro-galvanising under Australian outdoor conditions (UV, moisture, salinity, etc.).

In severe environments (e.g. coastal or high humidity), it can be more than 10 times better.

Why It Matters for Fencing

• Hot-dip galvanised wire is ideal for rural fencing, bushfire zones, and long-term infrastructure – it forms a metallurgical bond with the steel and provides sacrificial protection even if scratched.

• Electroplated wire is cheaper but not designed for long-term outdoor use – the thin coating wears off quickly, leading to early rust.
